Volunteer Job Descriptions
- Timer: Using a stopwatch provided by the team to time one lane of swimmers. Write down the time and give time sheet to a runner.
- Place Judge: Sits at the finishing end of the pool with a judge from the other team. Writes or calls out the order each swimmer placed.
- Runner: Takes the time sheet from the timer and place judge’s order sheet to scorer’s table after each race.
- Scorer: Calculates the score of the meet. Works with the opposing team’s scorekeeper. (requires training)
- Set-up*: For home meet, arrive at the ESL pool by 4:00pm to assist with setup of the pool, concessions, flags, chairs, etc.
- Clean Up*: Cleans up the pool areas, put all items away and helps cleans up concessions area. Required to stay until the end of the meet.
- Announcer*: Call out the order of events to inform swimmers of the next event.
- Starter*: Calls the swimmers to the block and starts the race. (requires training)
- Bullpen Parent: Ensure young swimmers get in position for their races behind their assigned lane, by making sure they are in the correct lane, heat, and event (and end of the pool, in the case of relays).
- Concessions*: Prepare and sell food and drink items during the swim meet. Assist with set up and clean up as well depending on the time of your shift.
- Ribbons: Places printed time/place labels on the ribbons and organizes and files them in the ribbon box.
- Event Board*: This is a simple yet important job. The Event Board volunteer keeps the event board current by updating the event number and heat number. This is critical because swimmers must know exactly what event and heat we’re on, or they might miss their race. A great job for people who are really paying attention to what is happening during the meet.
- Floater: This volunteer role is great for a veteran swim parent. They must be flexible and able to do all roles. They will be on call to fill in as needed during the shift they are assigned.
- Computer Entry: This volunteer will enter places and times into the computer software during the meet. (requires training)
